Summer Homework
Statistics is the organization and analysis of data. In order to understand several of the ideas we will study this year you will need an understanding or probability. After teaching this course for several years I have found that probability is consistently an area of weakness for my students. Therefore I have created a self-paced unit on probability that will prepare you to be more successful in this course.
This work is optional but strongly recommended.
The work consists of watching five videos and doing some accompanying practice problems. I strongly encourage you to buy a good notebook and take notes as you watch the videos. What you write is up to you, but if you are actively watching the video you will learn more than if you are passively watching the videos. The notebook that you are creating will become a record of your learning and will become something that you value.
Following each video there are several practice problems. Several of the problems require a numerical answer. The questions have been designed so if you have an incorrect answer it will simply say "Try Again." Understanding the concepts and being able to explain your answer in context is far more important than the numerical answer, but I wanted you to know if you are on the right track or not. The last question will ask you to summarize the section. This is a very important question, please synthesize what you learned from the video and the problems and explain them as if you were writing them for your friend.
The five sections are:
If you have any questions as you are working on these problems you can message me on Facebook at KHS Drama Lewis or email me at

- Introduction to Probability
- Rules of Probability
- Conditional Probability
